Brave New World

When first hearing about this project I was not particularly enthused. To read 'Brave New World' and create images from the book. Although I like reading I really didn't think Aldous Huxleys 'Brave New World' was going to be for me. But in the end I really enjoyed the book and the project as well. Some of my favorite pieces from the year came out of this project. I also liked working from a book so much that I continued to do so for my personal projects within printmaking, where I created pieces from the books; 'Animal Farm', 'White Fang', and 'Life of Pi'.

1.

When making this piece I thought about the different class systems and how they were conditioned into being however society decided they should be, as well as the way they were pleased about it. I used an image from my sketchbook traced and flipped as I wanted the two characters in the image to look identical. as they may well have in the book.

In this piece I was trying to show the different societies within that we are shown within the book. The brainwashed civilized folk of the cities and the savages who live in sectioned of reservations.

3.

When making this piece I was trying to recreate 'Lenina Brown' who is almost the beauty of the book. At first I was going for a sort of art nouveau style image but then decide that, that style didn't really work for a piece from brave as everything in brave new world is for function not aesthetics/

For this image I was trying to represent the three main characters from the book, i used references to draw the faces then, traced my drawing so I could test out different layouts for the image, before creating my final piece.
